The inaugural Mirror Ball held on March 21st 2009 was a wonderful celebration and a resounding success. Over 240 guests attended the glittery affair held at the sumptuous Redscooter.

Guests were spoiled by the attentive staff and savored the delicious food whilst they perused the vast array of silent Auction items and joined in the Mirror Ball game.

The evening kicked off with the warm and vivacious Jane Kennedy as MC, followed by a video portrait of Isabel, created by Limelight Events.

Catherine Martin provided some detail as to why the family had decided to embark on the exciting and gruelling road of rehabilitation and recovery, providing many inspiring examples of the innovative therapies available overseas and here in Australia.

Special Guest, Professor Mary Galea explained the limitations of Recovery therapies here in Australia, identifying the importance of Research funding before changes in the clinical setting could be embraced and those affected with spinal cord injury could experience the life enhancing benefits.

Dr John MacDonald and Patrick Rummerfield from the Kennedy Krieger Institute, Baltimore provided further inspiration and insight to how recovery from Spinal Cord Injury is a real goal, and one worth working towards.

One month after the event, guests continute to talk about the incredible auctioneer on the night, Antony Woodley from Collin Simms. Antony set a blinding pace and worked the room into a frenzy for the Live Auction.

It was an electric evening full of inspiration and courage, with loads of glamour and overwhelming generosity.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed so generously. Thank you also to all the event sponsors who helped make The Mirror Ball such as success.

As a result of the monies raised, Isabel is now able to continue with the Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy and Lokomat Gait Training that has activated so many of her improvements to date. An FES cycle has been purchased and installed at home, allowing Isabel to exercise her lower limbs with innumerable benefits, at the convenience of home.

In the near future it is hoped that a standing wheelchair will be purchased. The standing wheelchair will provide Isabel with vital health opportunities to stand, and to carry out the many day to day activities that require standing.
